Drug cartel hitman sentenced to 50 years in prison

MOULTON, Ala. – Jose Manuel Martinez, 52, is a contract killer for many drug cartels in Mexico and has admitted to killing people in several states of the United States. He has been sentence to 50 years in prison on murder charges and other crimes.

In 2013, Martinez was found guilty of a shooting in Alabama and also for contract killings in California and Florida.

In one instance, Martinez crossed the border from Mexico and was soon arrested. He was then sent to Alabama for trial. Martinez confessed to authorities that he worked for several drug cartels and that he would never reveal the names of his associates.

Soon after his confessions, investigators and law enforcement agency representatives from various states started to question him in order to obtain more information from him. These representatives conducted interviews with Martinez and gathered more and more information about the victims. The authorities found out that the information provided by him was new and that no one else might know about it.

In March 2013, Martinez shot another person by the name of Jose Ruiz. According to authorities, the cause of the murder was that Ruiz had made an insulting remark about Martinez’s daughter. According to defense attorney Tommy Turner, it was thought that the live-in boyfriend of Martinez’s daughter killed Ruiz, whose body was found in a field in Alabama. Turner says that it is difficult to say how many people Martinez has killed. “I’ve heard 36 or 46, but I’ve never asked him,” he said. On Thursday he pleaded guilty of murder according to court records.

In California, Martinez has been charged with 9 contract killings and Turner suggested that it is likely for him to be persecuted in Florida as he has been placed on a judicial hold there. It is thought that the Florida case emerged from two men who owed a huge sum of money, for which Martinez was sent to Florida to collect the owed money as he was the debt collector and enforcer. These two men were abducted and later killed.

He is said to have killed six people between ages 22 to 56 between 1980 and 2011 according to authorities in California.

In addition to the murder charges, he has been charged with one attempted murder, lying in wait and kidnapping. These charges are serious and could result in a death sentence if he is convicted.
